This map has been developed by the All-Island Research Observatory (AIRO) at Maynooth University through collaboration with the Census team at the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
The interactive map below is based on detailed socio-demographic variables from Census results for 2011 and 2016. Data is primarily available at the Small Area (SA) level, approx. 18k units in Ireland, and also at Electoral Division (ED) level for some time-series variables.
To display a thematic map simply click on the “Layer List”” in the central panel at the bottom of the screen and select your variable of interest. For further information on the statistics linked to each geographical area, you can click on the map.

With regard to the fourth map: does “can speak Irish” mean, speaks it fluently, or does it mean that your first language is Irish? Since Irish language is compulsory in the schools, I’m sure everyone picks up at least a smattering.
