MONGOLIAN empire was in the 10 m sq mi range, not Roman. “ the Roman empire’s size whitened in contrast to that of the Mongol empire. At its territorial peak in 117 AD, the Roman empire’s area was 24 mln sq km (9.3 mln sq mi), while the Mongolian empire’s territory in 1279 AD was only 5 mln sq km (1.9 mln sq mi).”
