For four minutes and six seconds, the eyes of the world were firmly set on Australia as the Australian Bureau of Statistics head David Kalisch answered the $122 million dollar question – should Australian Marriage Law be changed to allow same-sex couples to marry?

Eight out of ten eligible Australians expressed their view, with the majority 7,817,247 (61.6%) responding Yes and 4,873,987 (38.4%) answering No.

All states and territories recorded a majority Yes response. 133 of the 150 Federal Electoral Divisions (FED) recorded a majority Yes response and 17 of the 150 FEDs recorded a majority No response.

This map below shows the breakdown by electoral division including the breakdown of Yes/No responses, participation, median mortgage and rent, median age, marital status and birthplace.
