Australia's Desert Expanding Toward Cities 1930-2099

Australia's hot desert (BWh) and steppe (Bsh) zones are spreading hundreds of kilometers toward the coasts where Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Perth are located. This short shows the expansion from 1930 to 2099 using Köppen-Geiger data at 1km resolution (Beck et al. 2023, ssp2-4.5 scenario). The cold desert along the south coast disappears.
