Tea or Coffee, Which Country Actually Prefers What
Sep 13, 2026
This video maps which countries prefer tea and which prefer coffee, based on the ratio between each country's tea and coffee supply per person in 2023, then shows how that balance shifted from 2010.
Sri Lanka's tea supply outweighs its coffee supply by roughly 225 times per person, the widest gap on record. Turkey and China both remain firmly tea dominant even after building two of the fastest growing coffee markets anywhere in the world.
More than half of the 170 countries with usable data lean coffee by a factor of 5 or more. Chile, Senegal, and Ivory Coast all flipped from tea dominant in 2010 to coffee dominant by 2023.
