Having begun its life as a small collection of Holy Roman vassals in the late 13th Century, Switzerland consolidated its position against the Hapsburgs in the 14th Century, and finally sallied fourth in the 15th and 16th to become a sizable power. However, changes to its borders have been limit since 1647 due to its declaration of neutrality in that year. Despite that, Switzerland has remained a centre for intentional diplomacy until this day.
