Agricultural suitability is a subset of land suitability and focuses on which are the areas of land best suited for agriculture. The agricultural suitability of any territory, region or otherwise delimited area of land depends on its planned use. Suitability also assumes that the expected use is sustainable, i.e. that it does not result in the degeneration of the natural resource base or have negative social impacts.

445 million hectares of “underutilized” land remains available for conversion, mainly in Indonesia, Latin America, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
