Wincenty Okołowicz was a Polish geographer and climatologist. He is best known as the author of the World’s climatic zones classification.

The Polish geographer Wincenty Okołowicz identified the following climatic zones:

• Polar (Greenland) and subpolar zones (Alaska)
• Temperate zone splits in two – warm and cool, each of them includes three types of climate: terrestrial, maritime, and transitional: temperate cool continental (Canada), temperate cool transitional (Saint Petersburg), temperate cool oceanic (Iceland), temperate warm continental (Illinois, Iowa), temperate warm transitional (Warsaw), temperate warm oceanic (Ireland).
• Subtropical dry (Iraq) and subtropical wet (Greece).
• Tropical dry (Sudan) and tropical wet (Florida).
• Subequatorial dry (Chad), subequatorial wet (Congo), equatorial extremely wet (Singapore)
