Good dog owners pick up after their dogs, but not all owners are good. Some leave dog poop where it falls, and those who bag it and then abandon the bag.
Dogs can harbor lots of parasites, bacteria, and viruses, so the risk from poop can be more than just a mess on your boots. But where is dog poop most commonly found?
Protect My Paws studied Twitter data to identify which cities and U.S. states tweet the most about abandoned dog poop.
Table of Contents
Protect My Paws made a list of poop-related keywords (e.g., “dog poo”, “dog poop”, “dog litter”, “stepped in poo”, “poo bag”, “poo bags”, “dog fouling”).
Then, using Twitter API, they analyzed and extracted tweets featuring those words, removing locations other than the United States or the United Kingdom.
The team extrapolated data to determine the numbers for an entire year. Protect My Paws then compared the number of tweets with population figures and ranked the cities in both the U.S. and U.K.
Here are the results of a new study that reveals the dog waste hotspots of the U.S. and the U.K.
