Most U.S. citizens nowadays continue to be grown in a religious tradition. Just 12% of Americans tell being raised outside a regular religious tradition. The U.S. has the world’s largest Christian population and, more particularly, comprises the most significant Protestant population worldwide. About 50% say being raised Protestant, 29% report that they were raised as Catholic, and considerably fewer Americans were brought up Jewish (2%), Mormon (2%), Orthodox (1%), and Muslim (1%).

Nevertheless, there are notable differences in the religious raising of Americans across the nation. Below the map shows the American religious landscape created using IDW (Inverse distance weighted) technique in ArcGIS.

The map shows кeligious adherents as a percentage of all residents by county (1890 – 2010). Data is taken from the Association of Religious Data Archives (ARDA).
