Human hair color is the pigmentation of hair follicles due to two varieties of melanin: eumelanin and pheomelanin. Typically, if more melanin is present, the hair’s color is darker; if less melanin is present, the hair is lighter.
The hair’s tone depends on the black (brown) eumelanin ratio to yellow or red pheomelanin. Melanin levels can change over time, causing a person’s hair color to alter.
Some hair colors are connected with some ethnic groups due to the observed higher frequency of specific hair colors within their geographical area, e.g., straight dark hair amongst East Asians, a large variousness of dark, fair, curly, bushy, and wavy hair among Europeans, curly, dark, and uniquely helical hair with Africans. Blonde hair naturally has less pheomelanin. The highest frequency overall of blond-colored people is in the Finnic group. It results from adaptation to climate (low levels of insolation) and sexual selection.
The color of our eyes, hair, and skin is also determined by the amount of pigment they have. As a result, people with darker hair and skin frequently have dark eyes.
Brown hair usually goes with brown eyes and medium to olive skin tone. Blonde hair usually goes with blue or green eyes and fair skin.

Percentage of the population of people with red hair
Red hair is found in 1–2% of the world population, appearing with greater frequency (2–6%) amongst people of Northern or Northwestern European ancestry centered around populations in the British Isles and is significantly associated with the Celtic nations.
Ireland has the world’s highest number of red-haired people per capita, with the percentage of those with red hair at about 10 percent.
Great Britain also has a high percentage of individuals with red hair. In Scotland, about 6 percent of the population has red hair.
