Monaco’s Territorial Waters Mapped
Monaco is a very small country on the French Riviera. Its land area is about 2.08 km² (0.80 sq mi), and a little under 40,000 people live there.
The entire coastline is just 3.83 km (2.38 mi). That short strip on the Mediterranean is the reason Monaco’s territorial waters look the way they do.
The map below shows the maritime boundary agreed with France in 1984. With French waters on both sides and only a few kilometers of coast to measure from, Monaco’s sea zone is drawn as a narrow rectangle. It stretches out to 12 nautical miles (≈22.22 km) from the shore.
