World War II in Europe was marked by several significant battle fronts that shaped the course of the conflict. The Eastern Front, a vast expanse stretching from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea, witnessed intense fighting between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. Characterized by brutal battles like Stalingrad and Kursk, it became the site of some of the war’s largest and bloodiest engagements.

On the Western Front, the Allies launched the D-Day invasion in June 1944, opening a second front against Nazi-occupied Europe. The Battle of Normandy, with its iconic landing at Omaha Beach, marked a turning point as Allied forces began to push German troops back.

In the Mediterranean, the North African campaign unfolded, involving key battles such as El Alamein, where the Allies successfully halted the Axis advance. Meanwhile, Southern Europe saw intense fighting during the Italian Campaign, including the Battle of Monte Cassino.

The aerial Battle of Britain, fought over the skies of England, was a pivotal moment as the Royal Air Force successfully defended against the German Luftwaffe, preventing a potential invasion.

The map of the U.S. contains the following text:

“It is not always realized how extensive are the battle fronts which the Allies are holding in Europe. In this map they arc shown drawn to scale upon a map of the United States. It will be seen that the total battle front amounts to 2,195 miles a distance only 95 miles less than that from Chicago to .Sun Francisco, while the battle front in the West, where Germany has massed her heaviest forces, is nearly half the distance from New York to Chicago.

Despite the victories which have crowned the Allied arms, their tusk still remains u heavy one, and it will need every ounce of effort which they, and their American comrades, can put into the struggle to defeat the sinister aims of Prussian militarism.”
