CO2 is the most significant long-lived greenhouse gas in the atmosphere of our planet. Since the Industrial Revolution anthropogenic emissions – primarily from the use of fossil fuels and deforestation – have rapidly increased its concentration in the atmosphere, leading to global warming. The carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere as a result of the use of fossil fuels represents 99.4% of CO2 emissions.
