Carbon dioxide emissions in European countries
CO2 is the most significant long-lived greenhouse gas in the Earth’s atmosphere. Since the Industrial Revolution, anthropogenic emissions – primarily from the use of fossil fuels and deforestation – have rapidly increased its concentration in the atmosphere, leading to global warming. The carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere as a result of the use of fossil fuels represents 99.4% of CO2 emissions.
The map below, created by Reddit user JKPontinen shows carbon dioxide emissions annually in European countries (metric tons per capita).
The largest amount of carbon dioxide emissions per capita has been recorded in Russia.
