This ranking of the 50 states is based on their fiscal solvency in five separate categories: cash solvency, budget solvency, long-run solvency, service-level solvency, trust fund solvency.

Top five states: Alaska, Nebraska, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota.

Bottom five states: Kentucky, Illinois, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut.
