Proposals for new Australian states have been many since the late 18th and early 20th centuries.
The late 1800s witnessed many Australian politicians, especially from Queensland and Victoria, requisition London to adjoin the neighboring Pacific islands of New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and East Timor with little success. While the territories were useless to London, many Australians saw them as tokens that confirmed a new Australian Empire.
The map below created by Sasha Trubetskoy includes every important colony proposal, annexation, or other statehood activity with any reasonable amount of approval.
