Corn production plays a significant role in the economy of the U.S. The United States is the biggest corn producer globally, with 96 million acres (39 million ha) of land used for corn growing. Corn growth is dominated by the west and north-central Iowa and east-central Illinois. About 13 percent of its yearly yield is exported.
The map below shows percentage of each U.S. state taken up by cornfields.

The states that are marked in yellow are also called the “Сorn belt”.
The Corn Belt is a region of the Midwestern U.S. that has dominated corn production nationwide since the 50s of the last century. More commonly, the “Corn Belt” notion means the Midwest area is dominated by ranching and agriculture.
