Russia has the highest prevalence of males smoking tobacco in Europe. In the country, over 59% of the men of the total population smokes. For comparison prevalence of tobacco smoking in male population aged 15+: China – 48%; Japan – 34%; US, and India – 20%; Brazil – 19%.

Smoking among women was much less common than among men. In Europe, Serbia has the highest prevalence of females smoking tobacco (40%). For comparison prevalence of tobacco smoking in female population aged 15+: US – 15%, Japan – 11%, Brazil – 11%, China, and India – 2%.
