– The fame measure is a combination of article length, number of revisions and typical page views in 2016. (More precisely: it’s the harmonic mean of the log-normalised article length, revision count and median monthly page views).
– The list includes only deceased individuals, since the fame metric isn’t great at comparing dead and living people. Also, Wikipedia seems to have a surprising fascination with wrestling, which disappears this way.
– The list includes only individuals that are listed in one of Wikipedia’s annual Births section (around 60,000 people), since that’s what I’d already analysed for my previous posts. This should be fine for the bigger states, but likely omits some important people for the smaller ones.
– The list uses just English-language Wikipedia, though this shouldn’t be a problem here.
– The data was generated (as described above) and visualised using Python, Pandas and Pillow, combined with some helper libraries from here.
Balto really was the most famous dead Alaskan native listed in a Births section. In part that’s because most famous Alaskans are either non-native or still alive. Of the 193 Alakans listed in List of people from Alaska, just 71 are deceased, and just 11 of those are native-born. None are as famous as Balto 😉

I noticed that Pat Nixon is listed from NV. Was she well known for anything else becides a 1st lady? Not many dead famous people from NV, I guess.
Jim Thorpe more famous than Will Rogers?
