Most of the time zones on land are offset from Coordinated Universal Time by a whole number of hours, but a few time zones are offset by 30 or 45 minutes (Newfoundland Standard Time is Coordinated Universal Time−03:30; Nepal Standard Time is Coordinated Universal Time+05:45; Indian Standard Time is Coordinated Universal Time+05:30).
Some northern nations use daylight saving time for some months of the year, basically by adjusting local clock time by an hour. Various land time zones are skewed to the west of the corresponding nautical time zones.
