The French Empire was the Empire dictated by Napoleon Bonaparte, who established French hegemony over Europe at the beginning of the nineteenth century.

On 18 May 1804, Napoleon became the Emperor of the French. This event finished the time of the French Consulate. The French Empire reached military domination in mainland Europe during important victories in the Third Coalition War against Austria, Russia, Prussia, and allied countries.
At its height in 1812, the French Empire had 130 departments, ruled over 44 million people, and had a large army in Germany, Spain, Italy, and the Duchy of Warsaw.
