United States Census Bureau officially identified 5 races: White American, Black American, Native American, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Other Pacific Islander. The U.S. Census Bureau also classified respondents as “Hispanic” or “Not Hispanic”, classifying Hispanics an ethnicity, which contains the leading minority group in the United States.

Today white Americans are the racial majority in every U.S. state except Hawaii. Black Americans are the largest racial minority. African American population lives in the South. Hispanic Americans are the largest ethnic minority. Latinos live mainly in the southwestern states of the U.S.
