Christianity is the largest religion in Germany (58.5% of the population). The second-largest religion in Germany is Islam (5%). About 35% of the country’s population is not affiliated with any church or religion.
The two largest churches of the country are the Roman Catholic Church and the Evangelical Church in Germany, a Protestant confederation of United Protestant (Lutheran and Reformed) churches. The two churches together comprised 55% of the population, of whom 28.6% belonged to the Catholic Church and 26.6% to the Evangelical Church. In 2016, Orthodox Christianity constituted ~2% of the population and other minor Christian churches.

On this map, you can clearly see the differences between the former West and East Germany.

So there are only nonbelievers in “East Germany”? What about the 4 million Christians? Not to mention other religions. Who is researching this???
it said majority, which means 50.1%. Given that the current population of what was east germany is 12 million, and you are citing 4 million christians, there being a majority non religious makes sense.
As far as other religions, that is probably 5% or so, not enough to make a majority anywhere.
Hey there from Germany. These days it’s not so nice to chose brown in a context that codes all of East Germany in that same colour. We associate something different with that tone, I’m afraid
