According to a Gallup survey, about 63 percent of American adults drink alcohol. Approximately 42 percent of U.S. drinkers favor beer, 34 percent prefer wine, and only 19 percent like liquor the most.

The U.S. was placed 15th globally in per capita consumption, while total consumption was 2nd just to China. The U.S. is producing approximately 200 million barrels (31.8 billion liters) of beer every year and consuming roughly 28 U.S. gallons (110 liters) of beer per capita yearly. Beer in the U.S. is produced by more than 7 thousand breweries, ranging from industry giants to brewpubs.
