The Great Lakes contain 6 quadrillion gallons of water. The number is almost too big to write on a single piece of paper. It is enough water to cover the continental United States under ten feet of water. if we so desired. Filling up all of America’s wetlands, reservoirs and aquafers to completely sate the needs of the nation would be the mathematical equivalent of taking a glass of water from an Olympic sized swimming pool. Texas and other energy producing states gladly share our energy with the Eastern states. If we did not do this, they would freeze and starve to death. We need a more compassionate sharing of the water from these lakes for the South.
