The Wettest City in Every Country

Rain is a state of mind. Cities like Seattle and Manchester self-regard themselves for being the wettest in their particular countries. But are they right?

Nowadays, rain is a state of crisis. In the Chinese city of Zhengzhou, 25 inches (64 cm) of rain in a single day this summer claimed dozens of lives. It was in the wake of Germany’s most destructive floods in half a century. Last year, enough rainfall to fill Loch Ness dropped on the United Kingdom in 24 hours, the nation’s rainiest day on record.

The climate change crisis has increased the probability of heavy rainfall worldwide. Neomam Studios and Budget Direct have used Climate Data to calculate the number of rainy days per year (with at least 1 mm or 0.04 inches of rain or snow) for 64,429 cities worldwide to view where precipitation is falling.

The map below shows the rainiest cities in each country around the world. If you live in one of these cities, you better make sure you have a good umbrella.

The Wettest City in Every Country

Buenaventura in Colombia is the wettest city in the world, with 258 rainy days every year. Four out of the top five wettest cities are in South America, and the top two are both in Colombia. Most parts of the country are affected by tropical climates, which means high temperatures and high amounts of rainfall, especially in western coastal areas.
