The primary usage of nuclear heat is the generation of electricity. The gross electricity production from nuclear plants within the EU-27 member countries in 2019 was 765 338 GWh, a 16.3 percents decline compared to 2006, or an average decrease of 1.25 percent per year.
The largest producer of nuclear power in the European Union is France, with a 52.1 percent share of the European Union total in 2019, accompanied by Germany (9.8 percent), Sweden (8.6 percent), and Spain (7.6 percent).
