Dogs exist in a larger percentage of houses, but cats have a larger total population. Dogs globally, owned by 33% of respondents, with cats at 23%. Nearly 95.6 million cats and 89 million dogs live in houses in the U.S. In Europe cats are the most popular pets, with a stable population of 102.7 million in Europe, including Russia. Islam in Europe

The Islamic conquests of the 7th and 8th centuries brought Muslim armies into parts of the Iberian Peninsula (modern-day Spain and Portugal), North Africa, and the Mediterranean islands. In 711 CE, the Umayyad Caliphate from the Arabian Peninsula invaded the Iberian Peninsula, and within a few years, they established the Umayyad Emirate of Cordoba, which later evolved into the Caliphate of Cordoba (929-1031 CE).
